JERKY TREATS IMPORTED FROM CHINA REPORTEDLY CAUSING KIDNEY FAILURE IN DOGS:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to caution consumers about a potential association between the development of illness in dogs and the consumption of chicken jerky products. The products—also called chicken tenders, strips, or treats—are imported from China. FDA continues to receive complaints of sick dogs ...that their owners or veterinarians associate with eating chicken jerky products. This has actually been going on since 2007.
SIGNS TO WATCH FOR: include decreased appetite; decreased activity (lethargy); vomiting; diarrhea, sometimes with blood; and increased water consumption and/or increased urination.
Avoid feeding chicken jerky strips from China to dogs until we know conclusively that they are safe. Note that these products often appear to be made in the US, but if you search carefully, you'll find "Made in China" in tiny print somewhere on the bag. These products may also be called Chicken Tenders, Strips, or Treats.
Due to manufacturing shortage of Novartis products, Sentinel and Interceptor availability has been affected and will be in short supply for an undetermined amount of time. Because we want all of our pets to be protected, at this time we will only sell these products in one month supplies.
