The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) raises and distributes funds for charitable programs that Veterinarians value as important for animal well being, now and in the future. Our programs include Disaster Relief and Response, Emergency Preparedness, Animal Health Studies and Veterinary Education and Scholarships.

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), established in 1863, is a not-for-profit association representing more than 76,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services. Structured to work for its members, the AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership and for the profession.

The mission of NAVTA is to represent and promote the profession of veterinary technology. NAVTA provides direction, education, support and coordination for its members, and works with other allied professional organizations for the competent care and humane treatment of animals.

The Northeast Georgia Animal Shelter believes that all animals are entitled to be free from suffering, abuse, and exploitation. We believe in the intrinsic dignity and sanctity of animal life. We have an obligation to prevent cruelty, alleviate suffering, and to protect and care for homeless and abandoned animals. Our mission is to promote the adoption of companion animals and to educate the public on responsible pet ownership. We believe that our values, decisions, conduct, and behavior should set the tone and be a model for others in their care and treatment of animals.

We are an open admission, non-profit Shelter, supported financially by private donations and funds from eight city and county jurisdictions. We do not refuse any animals from Hart and Franklin Counties. We often take in sick and injured animals, feral cats, wild dogs, and viscious dogs. In these cases, it is our obligation to humanely end the suffering of these animals. We strive to get all of our animals adopted, and often work with rescue groups and other local shelters to achieve this.

The Georgia Poison Center (GPC) provides 24-hour, poison emergency treatment information for the medical diagnosis and treatment of human and animal poisoning. Providing free, timely, advice and information to parents, child care providers, pharmacists, nurses, and doctors, the Center plays a significant role in reducing the cost of treatment and the severity of poisonings where time is of essence. The Center is also a training site for healthcare professionals and serves the state by coordinating outreach and education programs to increase awareness of poison prevention and first-aid.
